Last Saturday I got my 1991 FZR 600 back from the shop where it’s been since late July. I had the carbs rebuilt and the valve clearances checked and adjusted, and even though it look like shit, it rides incredibly now! The only thing that hasn’t been repaired, rebuilt, or replaced on it is the rear shock, wheels, and frame.

As soon as I got it home I put on the NOS Vance & Hines exhaust that’s been sitting in my apartment for months and it sounds like a 90s race bike. It’s loud, the brakes squeal, and it absolutely hates going slow. Speaking of race bikes, I’m thinking about getting a solo tail for it and hopefully doing a few beginner track days next year. Originally I was planning on “restoring” it with new fairings and original stickers, but now that I’ve got my SRAD which is in much better shape cosmetically, I think I want to do my own thing and have a little more fun with the look of it.

Unfortunately, 3 bikes and a car is a bit much for my single parking space, and next year I’m probably gonna sell my Honda Hawk 650. Despite it being the lowest miles and most reliable, it’s served its purpose as being my first bike and I want it to go to someone who will appreciate how special it is.

Do n’t take it the wrong way, but why not install the new exhaust before having the shop working on the carbs ? You’ll likely have to re-jet the carbs to make it run properly with the new exhaust.

Beautiful collection. Getting rid of the Honda makes the most sense. 3 bikes isn’t too much. Add a dual sport/adventure bike to the stable to mix it up. Ride safe!

+1 should have had the exhaust on it while the shop had it. It might run ok enough as is but it’s a near guarantee that it will need to be re-jetted.

I bought the exhaust while the bike was in the shop, I likely will next season. I just wanted to get it on and hear what it sounded like before the season ends this year

It wouldn’t be too many if I had a proper garage!

Kinda depends on what jets are on there already and what exhaust was on there previously, as well as any other mods. Also temp and elevation.

Carbs are dumb. It may be fine, it may be rubbish. That may change tomorrow.

definitely keep it original!  or perhaps a vinyl wrap is a safe way to change the look.  maybe a nice race replica livery!

I’ve been thinking something like this TZ250, a little more sporty but not fully stickered up
